Reply with quote | #1 | I finally got a chance to get out and sight-in my wife's muzzle loader after mounting a red dot sight on it...
With my wife being right handed and left eye dominate, a regular rifle scope was just out of the question. We looked at various red dot sights and then finally found one that had a huge 50mm lens with unlimited eye relief. Now she is in business...
I thought about various mounting locations for the red dot sight and forward out on the barrel, away from all the smoke and flash from the primer, seemed the most logical. This way, the lens would stay clean and clear and "unburnt" from the blow-back during firing. I used the rear sight screw hole as a guide and first mounting hole and then just had to drill/tap three more holes for the base. Fortunately though, the same scope base for the T/C Contender was a perfect fit as far as barrel size and contour go and the rest as they say, was history...
Sighting in was simple, with 50 yd. 3-shot groups going through the same hole and 100 yard groups running well under 2 inches...
Check this out and let me know what you think....

A "Guide Gun Mount" on a muzzle loader looks a little different, if it gets another hunter into the woods, that's all that counts. Now, a deer on the ground is all that is needed. Keeping the black powder residue off the scope is also a big plus.
